Information for Applicants
Playworld Systems is the vendor MKS uses to purchase the playground equipment. This is a well-established manufacturer with high quality equipment. The size and scope of the playground will depend on the number of children involved and the needs of the community. You can visit our photo album on the playgrounds page to get a sense of the projects we build.
MKS donates the playground equipment and arranges volunteer labor to build the playground. We also encourage project neighbors to volunteer. MKS will pay for a certified playground representative who will ensure that the volunteers construct the playground in accordance with safety standards.
If you have further questions, please contact Pete Ognibene at [email protected].

Applying for a Playground
Make Kids Smile, Inc. is more than happy to accept applications for a playground. In order for us to determine whether your organization is a good fit for our mission, please send the following information in the application narrative form below.
1. Background of the property/organization: What is the objective of the organization? Is it for-profit or not-for-profit? Is it private or public?
2. Site demographics/geography: Please demonstrate that the children using the equipment are from low-income families and explain the demographics of the community your organization or property serves. How many children would use the playground? What is the surrounding area like? Where is the nearest place where children can currently play?
3. Finances: Typically, Make Kids Smile asks for some contribution from the requesting organization. This may be in the form of financial support, the donation of the "safety surface" (such as mulch), and/or an in-kind donation of labor. Have other sources of money been requested for the purchase of a playground? How much would the organization be willing to contribute towards construction?
4. Playground specifics: What type/kind of playground would you like? How big would you like it to be? Can you demonstrate that you have the resources to adequately maintain the equipment?
To apply, please use the form below to respond to the above items. If you would prefer to apply by snail mail, see the "Contact" link on the top menu for the MKS address.
